Lynne Stewart--Defense Attorney, and Victim of the U.S.A. PATRIOT Act
an interview with New York lawyer Stewart conducted by Lisa Ledwidge, Outreach Director, Institute for Energy and Environmental Research, Minneapolis. Ms. Stewart, a New York criminal defense attorney who handles clients whom many attorneys do not want to defend, is now under indictment for "aiding and abetting a terrorist", namely, her client, the Egyptian cleric convicted of helping to plan the World Trade Center bombing of 1994. The case is based on secret government eavesdropping on lawyer and client. Lynne faces 40 years in prison if found guilty. Her trial is scheduled for October 2003. The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.
A remarkable film made by an independent producer at the actual time a coup against Venezuela's elected president Hugo Chavez was put in action. The film begins with U.S. TV news personnel announcing there had been a change of regime in Venezuela. The film covers the coup itself, its perpetrators, their celebration in the presidential palace with their chosen new leader, the refusal by the population of Venezuela to accept the coup, and the triumphant return of Chavez to the presidential palace when the military refused to support the coup.
